Summer is when people start to put together music playlists for the road trips, parties, and “fun stuff”that will be taking place during the season. Here is a list of some songs that have been mainstays of my summer playlists over the last few years:

Circa Waves – T-Shirt Weather:

This infectious 2015 indie rock anthem by Liverpool four piece, Circa Waves, is an essential soundtrack for summer with its exciting guitar riff and catchy chorus.

Shortstraw – OMG:

South African indie rock band, Shortstraw, have yet to properly to make their way to Ireland’s shores, but with a discography that contains songs like Couch Potato and this 2015 upbeat banger, it is only a matter of time.

Sun Culture – Sea Salt

Ohio four piece, Sun Culture, is the brain child of songwriter and producer, Chase Coy. They are another band on this list who have yet to properly establish themselves on the global scene, but this upbeat indie pop song should be a fixture in any playlist that you are making up for that summer barbecue.

Here We Go Magic – How Do I Know:

This beautiful little song featured on the soundtrack of the 2013 comedy-drama, Drinking Buddies, and has been an ever present during summer listening for this writer ever since. Here We Go Magic are a Brooklyn-based indie rock band who have to date three albums to their name.

Icona Pop – I Love It:

This song requires no introduction. It was impossible to turn on the radio in 2012 and not hear Swedish electropop duo, Icona Pop, which was not a bad thing.

Early Hours – Smells Like Summer:

This 2014 Indie pop anthem from this charismatic South African four piece is another song on this last that it is impossible to not bop your head along to. Also the title and catchy sing-along chorus is sure to remind you of a certain time of year.

The Holloways – Jukebox Sunshine:

English four piece, The Holloways, may have stopped making music in 2011, but thankfully before they did they left behind this gem of an indie pop tune. Impossible to not have a little dance to this song.

This Club – I Won’t Worry:

Another song that will always remind me of summer due to a particularly nice summer day out in 2012 ending with seeing this guys play a live show in Dublin as part of the Dublin Tall Ships FestivalThis Club (formerly Hoarsebox) released this upbeat pop song in August 2011 and it instantly became a fixture on Irish radio, and for good reason. The accompanying music video is also particularly wonderful.
