The first time I came across the music of English soul singer/songwriter, Michael Kiwanuka, was his set as the support act for Adele at the 2011 iTunes Festival in London. I was left intrigued by the manner in which the young man from Muswell Hill in London commanded the stage with just an acoustic guitar.

Michael Kiwanuka‘s debut album, Home Again, would eventually reach the ears of the public the following March and it would be one of my favourite releases of the that year. Released on the Polydor label, the collection of ten songs would spawn four official singles, with the first of them being the beautifully constructed title track Home Again. The album would be met with universally positive reaction by critics and music fans. Kiwanuka received particular praise for the rich texture of his vocals, as well as the excellent production by Paul Butler.

This article will outline my favourite songs off the album of this very talented songwriter.

Worry Walks Beside Me

Home Again

Tell Me A Tale

I’ll Get Along

Kiwanuka has since gone on to release a second album, Love & Hate, in July 2016. The LP would again be met with widespread critical acclaim, with many hailing it as the work of an artist starting to properly come into their own.

It is clear that Kiwanuka knows what he is trying to do in his career and I greatly look forward to his next release.
