Back in early December of last year I found myself in The Academy in Dublin to see the fantastic up and coming Longford band, Brave Giant. The show would be one of the most enjoyable that I would see in 2017, and it would be added to greatly by the two support acts on the night, Fallen Lights and Limerick singer/songwriter, Emma Langford.
When you hear Emma Langford sing it is instantly clear that there is more to her than just a traditional folk artist. Langford integrates numerous different genres in her songwriting to create a truly unique sound that captivates the audiences that she plays in front of.
The debut album from the Limerick singer/songwriter was released in 2017, entitled Brave Giant. The album, a collection of ten wonderfully crafted pieces of music, demonstrated the vocal ability of the Limerick as well as her ability to demonstrate various and versatility in her songwriting. The album was well received by critics and fans alike.
This article will now look at my three favourite songs by Langford:
The second track on the excellent Quiet Giant LP is probably my favourite piece of music by the singer/songwriter. A lovely piano driven homage to the classic Mr. Sandman by The Chordettes, it is perfect demonstration of the vocal ability of Emma Langford.
The most recent single by the Limerick woman is a foot-stomping tune with hints of Brave Giant and Laura Marling. The lovely singalong chorus and instantly catchy rhythm make this an integral part of the set list of any live show by Langford.
Seduction of Eve:
Seduction of Eve is a heartbreaking piece of music about an unhappy relationship. There is a sincerity to the vocals and lyrics on this song that make for a compelling listen and it is a song that leaves the listening in no doubt of the songwriting talent of Langford.
It is clear that the Emma Langford is only starting her musical journey, and there is plenty of evidence to suggest that there is a lot more to come.
