Sometimes you hear a song on the radio and a vocal just seems to draw you in and catch your ear. There is something about the texture of the voice and the contribution that it makes to the song cause it to stand out from the other vocals that we hear on the radio. An example of this sensation came the first time I heard the Sigala song, Wish You Well.

The vocalist in question was Worchestershire vocalist Becky Hill. There was something about the powerful tone of Hill’s voice on the track that meant that it was impossible not to get washed along with the song and is what made it one of the stand out hits of 2019 so far.

After starting to make music at 14 as part of the mildly successful band, Shaking Trees, Hill first came to prominence when she was a contestant on the very first season of the British music talent show, The Voice UKshe auditioned with the song Ordinary People by John Legend back in 2012. After successfully getting two of the judges to turn around for her, she chose to be coached by Jessie J and managed to reach the semi final of the competition before being voted out.

In the years after appearing on The VoiceHill started to build a steady reputation as a backing vocals artist and song writer, co-writing songs with English artists Wilkinson (Afterglow), and MNEK (Gecko (Overdrive)), the latter reaching the top of the UK single charts in June 2014. This achievement meant that Hill became the first contestant of The Voice to land a number one.

In recent years, Becky Hill has become the voice of some of the biggest pop hits of the last few years with features on tracks like Back and Forth with MK and Jonas Blue, and I Could Get Used To This with Weiss, cementing her place as one of the biggest pop vocalists on the planet.

In September 2019, the performer announced that she would soon be releasing a mini collection of her previous hits as well as some newer songs. These new songs had initially been intended to be released as an EP only for them to be held for inclusion on the compilation album, entitled Get to Know.

There is no doubt that there is something irresistible about the vocals of Hill. Equally adept at the heart wrenching ballad as she is with the uplifting dance song, there is a range and versatility to her performances that can not be taught. I’ll be exciting to see how her own songwriting develops as the years go on.
