One thing that becomes blatantly clear every year as festival season in Ireland starts to roll around is the sheer quality of music festival that is available to the music fan in Ireland, and this weekend we have one of the best make it’s reappearance: Electric Picnic. I was lucky enough to be in attendance at last years festival and it was one of the most exciting and enjoyable weekends I’ve ever experienced as it provided the perfect removal from the stresses of a summer of house and job hunting.

This year again the Stradbally event has managed to gather together a fantastic line up of some of the biggest international stars on the planet at the moment, as well as some outstanding Irish talent. Below is a selection of some of the acts that you should try to make it to over the few days.

With an ability for writing dancey and interesting songs, and lead by front man Matt Healy, they are sure to be one of the main draws of the weekend.

Dermot Kennedy

Dermot Kennedy’s rise continues to show no sign of stopping just yet and with his debut album due to be released in October of later this year, he is sure to draw a massive crowd on the Friday night of the festival. Kennedy’s backing band are also one of the best you will see at the weekend, with drummer Michéal Quinn a truly captivating stage presence.

The biggest superstar on the planet at the moment and after the success of her debut album when we die where do we go? earlier this year, she is sure to be the biggest draw of the weekend.

Le Boom

Le Boom are magnificent. A band who routinely churn out classic dancey and exciting tracks, they are known for their dramatic and energetic live performances. The perfect group to head along to if you are looking for a good time over the weekend.

Charli XCX

Last year was a year that I will remember for the string of outstanding singles that American pop singer/songwriter seemed to release with extreme regularity across the year, with songs like Girls Night Out5 In The Morning, and 1999 (featuring Troye Sivan) making my most listened to list for the year. She is sure to be a fantastic live performer at the weekend.

Enjoy it, folks.
